Spiny shrub or small tree of Central America and West Indies having bipinnate leaves and racemes of small bright yellow flowers and yielding a hard brown or brownish-red heartwood used in preparing a black dye. Synonyms: bloodwood tree, campeachy, Haematoxylum campechianum, logwood.
